Amanda Bell was appointed Principal of Brisbane Girls Grammar School in January, 2002. Her professional background lies in art history and education, with wide experience in teaching and administration of schools in New South Wales, Western Australia and now Queensland. Ms Bell also has curatorial experience, developed during her Directorship of the National Trust’s S.H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney. She was appointed as a Trustee of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in 2008.
In conjunction with her commitment to the philosophy of a grammar school and a liberal education model, she believes that a comprehensive student care programme is paramount to young women achieving optimal personal confidence and success. Academic outcomes are enhanced by encouraging student participation in exciting and worthwhile co-curricular activities and community service opportunities.
“Brisbane Girls Grammar School aims to educate the whole student, from young teenager to young woman. Future women will need to have the educational foundation to enable the pursuit of further study, the social skills to be able to move effectively within the global context and the ability to cope with the many complex and unexpected situations that life can present. They will need to approach the world with wisdom, imagination and integrity.”
