Grammar Women — Be BOLD for Change — Georgie Somerset

Queensland agricultural leader and strategist, Ms Georgie Somerset, is one of the guest speakers at our upcoming Grammar Women — Be BOLD for Change event, an evening with inspirational women from a range of industries talking about their pathways into non-traditional fields, their drive to make a difference and how a positive reaction to change has helped propel their career.

Georgie is a beef producer and rural leader with experience in agribusiness, marketing and regional development.

She is Vice President of AgForce Queensland and is on the boards of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Children’s Health Queensland, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland) and the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority (QRAA). Georgie also chairs the Red Earth Community Foundation and is involved with various industry and community groups.

Her work involves identifying and advocating opportunities, resolving issues and creating linkages and networks across sectors.

While Georgie says her greatest achievement so far is her family, she is also proud of the many projects she has worked on.

‘I am proud to have been involved as a founder of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network, working with a great team of women to help rural women gain effective, timely information, to help get them connected to the internet, and to feel empowered and have support,’ Georgie said.

Georgie strives to do her best in every situation and faces the challenges of working in a male-dominated industry head-on.

‘I am always learning, always growing and always finding out more about myself and all the opportunities there are,’ she said.

‘I am also determined to support those following me, providing a hand up as many have to me.’

Her advice to future Grammar Women is, ‘Believe in yourself — you are enough.’

‘Never stop learning and gather around you strong women and men who will both catch you when you trip and lift you higher than you could ever imagine.’

We look forward to hearing more from Georgie at Grammar Women — Be BOLD for Change, which will be held on Thursday 25 May 2017 in the Barbara Fielding Room on Level 4 of the Cherrell Hirst Creative Learning Centre at Brisbane Girls Grammar School.
