Bursaries have the power to be life-changing, as they bring diversity to the School community and provide future students with a range of opportunities they otherwise would not be able to access.
A vibrant School environment, where students are enriched by diverse experiences and different perspectives, is integral to a Girls Grammar education.
Tuition fees cover the ongoing operating costs of the School, while philanthropy helps to provide access and opportunities for girls from a wide range of backgrounds. With philanthropic support from the BGGS community, the School has established a dedicated Bursary Fund to provide means-tested financial assistance to promising students who could not otherwise attend our School.
We invite all members of the School community to consider making a donation to the BGGS Bursary Fund so that we can expand the number of bursaries available to more students in future.
Gifts of $2 or more are tax-deductible. Donors can make a gift of any size to the general BGGS Bursary Fund.
Alternatively a donor may choose to provide a major gift to establish a fixed term bursary to support a student for six years, or endow a bursary in perpetuity. Gifts can be made as single gifts, as a pledge over two to six years, or by leaving a gift through a Will.
A fixed term expendable bursary is awarded for a set period of time, ideally six years to cover the recipient’s senior school education at BGGS. Funds may be donated in advance for the entire nominated period or annually each year in advance. For example:
A gift of $180 000 would provide full support for one student from Year 7 to Year 12
A gift of $360 000 would provide full support for two students from Year 7 to Year 12.
Set up in the right way, an endowed bursary maintains its value and its capacity to support students in perpetuity. This ensures that ultimately, over many years, hundreds of girls can receive invaluable help to access an excellent education.
It is possible to endow a bursary in full or partially. The minimum gift required to endow a bursary is $400 000. To ensure a perpetual bursary achieves the donor’s wishes and can also be utilised by Brisbane Girls Grammar School in future years, potential donors are encouraged to contact the School’s Development Office to discuss their ideas initially.
The School is honoured to recognise the generosity of individuals and families who establish a bursary. Naming opportunities for perpetual and fixed term bursaries are available in accordance with the School’s guidelines.
If you would like more information about establishing a bursary or would like to make a donation, please contact the Development and Alumnae Relations team on development@bggs.qld.edu.au or phone +61 7 3332 1300.
