Enrolling my daughter

Enrolling my daughter

When do I need to submit my application to ensure the best chance of receiving an offer?

The School welcomes enrolment applications any time after birth. Girls are placed on our enrolment application lists according to the date on which we receive their application. To ensure the enrolments procedure is as fair as possible there is currently no preference given to sisters of enrolled, current or past students, daughters of past students or girls with any other connection to the School.

When will I know if my daughter has a confirmed place?

Once you have submitted your enrolment we will continue to keep you informed about the status of your enrolment application. Approximately three years prior to the nominated year of entry the School will commence the confirmation process. Offers of a place will be made to families on our enrolment application list in strict date order. While positions are taken up quickly, in recent years we have been able to offer places to the majority of girls on our enrolment application lists.

When is the closing date for applications?

There is no closing date for applications however we do encourage you to submit your enrolment application as soon as practicable. Traditionally, girls have joined our School in the first year of secondary school in Queensland, but with globalisation and increased labour mobility, places can become available throughout the year in all year levels and will be offered at the Principal’s discretion. If you are interested in a place for your daughter in any year level, please contact our Enrolments Office on  enrolments@bggs.qld.edu.au or+61 7 3332 1386.

What is the criteria for enrolment?

The School is academically non-selective and as such there is no academic selection criteria for Year 7 entry. However, girls must have completed Year 6 in Queensland or the equivalent year level at an interstate or overseas school and must have completed the previous school year to a standard that will not disadvantage them upon enrolment.

Do you offer scholarships and bursaries?

Brisbane Girls Grammar School offers bursaries from time to time. Despite its strong academic reputation, Brisbane Girls Grammar School is an academically non-selective school and does not offer any scholarships.

Is Girls Grammar more expensive than other girls schools?

Unlike many other independent girls schools, Girls Grammar’s annual tuition fee is all-inclusive. The fee covers the cost of tuition and a range of curricular and co-curricular activities. It includes all academic programmes at our Marrapatta Memorial Outdoor Education Centre, class excursions, group music tuition, choir or band participation and sporting involvement, other than external club registration fees. There are no additional fees or levies for the IT programmes or building programme.

My daughter’s friends have just been made an offer for a place.  Will we receive an offer too?

Offers are made on the basis of the date an enrolment application was submitted to ensure as fair a process as possible. Please be assured that we offer the maximum number of places available and that you will be kept informed in a timely manner.

Do I need to send in my daughter’s reports?

Once your daughter has been offered a place, in the year prior to her commencement with us, we will contact you to request her school reports and to schedule an interview. This interview is usually held in the January or February in the year prior to commencement. Students must have completed the previous school year to a standard that will not disadvantage them upon enrolment. It is also important to advise us about any special needs your daughter has in relation to her education or welfare.

How do you help girls transition successfully into the School?

Our Welcoming and Orientation programmes begin well ahead of your daughter’s official start date at Girls Grammar. In the year prior to her commencing at the School, you will be invited to a number of activities to make your daughter feel welcome and confident during the transition into her new school life, and importantly, to give her the opportunity to meet and form friendships with her future classmates.

You will also be invited to an interview at the School with the Principal and your daughter’s Head of House where you will be introduced to the traditions and working life of the School, and have further opportunities to discuss any questions you may have. Of course, in the meantime, you are very welcome to come along to our School Open Days or to arrange to have a tour of the School.

 Can we visit the School?

We encourage families to visit the School prior to starting here and offer School tours throughout the School year as well as a virtual tour online. To book a tour please contact the Enrolments Office on enrolments@bggs.qld.edu.au or +61 7 3332 1386.

Open Day is a great opportunity to experience the energy and excitement of the School, talk to teachers and students and become familiar with the School and its facilities. In addition, there are a number of other events held at the School that parents and girls are warmly invited to and will be notified of via Enrolment News.
