Fathering an Adolescent Girl: The What and How

This seminar series is open to fathers with daughters in Years 7 to 10, and will equip fathers with information and strategies to help them understand, relate to and communicate with their daughters.

Reflecting the School’s commitment to engaging and strengthening our partnership with parents, we are delighted to offer a seminar series developed specifically for fathers—Raising Confident Girls: Fathers Seminars.

The seminars will comprise presentations, discussions and small group activities in a relaxed, engaging and fun environment. Refreshments will be provided, and each participant will receive a booklet containing key information discussed during the seminars.

6.30 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday 27 August—The What

  • Why is my daughter changing?
  • What do I need to know?
  • Why does she act the way she does?
  • Key developmental issues for fathers

6.30 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday 10 September—The How

  • How to manage your daughter’s emotions
  • How to communicate effectively
  • How to stay connected
  • How to prepare your daughter for life beyond school
  • How to encourage positive emotions
  • How to father effectively

Ms Jody Forbes, Director of Student Counselling, has designed the seminar in partnership with Mr Brent Wall, a former BGGS parent (2018).

Jody has worked at Girls Grammar for 15 years and is a mother to two adolescent girls. Brent has recently navigated the journey of raising an adolescent girl as a single parent. Brent joins Jody to share a father’s perspective on how turn theory into action.
