Before Tucker Up and Tucker Down, there were the original Tuckers

In June 2016, a unique collection of memorabilia was gifted to the School by Elske Winten, mother of Jennifer Grantham (Winten, 1965). It includes letters of donations, notes of thanks to Elske and her group, newspaper cuttings, Girls Grammar art show programs, but perhaps the most precious item in this collection is the 'Log Book of a Group of BGGS Tuckers'.

In 2018 Elske Winten was interviewed by independent publisher, Ocean Reeve, who described Elske as 'a woman of many accomplishments, and as a young mother she represented her community on the committees of both the boys and girls Brisbane Grammar Schools and over a period of forty-five years she documented the annual get-together of the ladies with whom she worked in the school tuckshop. This became a wonderful historical document which she recently presented to the school for its archives.'

Elske Winten’s group of Tuckers were a tightly-knit group who became a devoted group of friends. They had bonded over working together for their daughters and the logbook chronicles how they continued to meet regularly for the next 45 years after their daughters left the School in 1966, until there were only three members left in 2010. They may have finished their rosters, but this logbook is a detailed record of every meeting the 19 members held, including the venue, the date, the menu, attendees, the weather, and family news of each member. They supported each other through family and life events, a bond of friendship that was sustained until Elske Winten became the last remaining tuckshop mother from this original group.
