Sharing a reflection

On Tuesday 20 May, the entire Year 8 cohort participated in Quest—a much-anticipated and energetic collaboration between Brisbane Girls Grammar School and Brisbane Grammar School. Throughout the day, students worked in small groups on a challenge that engaged them in peer-level design thinking. Technologies teachers prepared the cohort with a design brief requiring students to create an engineered solution to an education futures problem. From there, students took ownership and worked independently to strategise, negotiate, and create an appropriate solution.

Bella Shen (8W) shares her reflections on the day:

It was just two days before Quest and even though we were not sure exactly what to expect, we knew this day was going to be something different, something exciting. And we were right.

For the first time, the boys and girls came together, and there was that welcoming atmosphere about seeing familiar faces, combined with some we did not usually get to spend time with. It made everything feel new, like we were part of something bigger.

We really enjoyed seeing how different everyone’s ideas were and how combining them led to the best results, reminding us that Quest is not just about one subject. Whether we were solving challenges, constructing something original, or working through tricky scenarios, we had to rely on each other and really listen, communicate, and trust. It was awesome to see people shine in ways we had not seen before.

By the end of the day, we felt proud, a little tired, but mostly lucky to have had such a memorable experience. We are already looking forward to the next opportunity to collaborate with students from BGS!
