Common Ground
This year's Senior Drama co-production with BGS 'Common Ground' was written by Brisbane Playwright, David Burton.
Common Ground plunges a group of teenagers into a compulsory, year-long off-grid immersion in a natural ecosystem, where they must learn to connect and build community. What begins as an idealistic experiment soon becomes a pressure cooker: alliances form, rivalries flare, and leadership is tested as the rules tighten and trust begins to fray. As the seasons turn, they are forced to confront a fundamental question: can belonging be engineered, or is true common ground only forged the hard way?
This project was developed through an intensive and collaborative process between David Burton, students and staff from both schools and represented a significant creative and learning experience for the senior students involved.
The sold-out Common Ground co-production was shown over three nights, and showcased strong ensemble work, thoughtful storytelling, and the students’ commitment to working at a professional standard.
