Co-curriculum Drama Wrap

In the second semester, the Drama Studio travelled the world in a wide range of performances from Amsterdam to the zombie apocalypse and a shapeshifting teenager.

The Senior Drama production—The Book of Everything—was an adaptation of Guus Kuijer’s novel by Richard Tulloch. The play took its audience to Amsterdam in the summer of 1951. In the aftermath of World War Two, fear and suspicion hung heavily in the air. But through the naïve eyes of the endearing hero, Thomas, the audience were immersed in the joy, wonderment and magic of his world.

Directed by Head of Drama, Ms Katrina Riveros, this production brought Thomas’ vivid imagination to life through visual theatricality with playful ensemble action, video animation and live sound, crafting small moments of magic. The Book of Everything reminded us to believe, to imagine and to act when we see injustice.

The Year 7 and 8 Drama Production took audiences on an apocalyptic rollercoaster ride in a fast-paced comedy about the individual and the group–a commentary on adolescence and identity. The story followed Alex Tracks and a band of misfits as they went up against the bullies of the school, a mystery outer space infection, and one evil cat! Matthew Whittet’s script used the contemporary trope of zombie-ism to great effect to comment on how the masses become addicted to the cult of trends.

In ‘Where in the World is Frank Sparrow?‘ the Year 9 and 10 Drama students took us deep underground—to a world of subterranean creatures where a young girl with shapeshifting powers is involved in a centuries-long gangland feud threatening the very survival of the human race. Narrated by an ensemble of omnipresent beings, Frankie’s story professed the need for belonging, the desire for purpose, and the beauty of the beast.

Who knows where we will go, or who we will meet, or what we will explore in our theatrical worlds next year?

Thank you to all who supported the Drama program this year, and we wish you all a safe holiday on the horizon.
