Grammar Goes Green
Last term, students from Grammar Goes Green extended their horticultural interests to Victoria Park as they connected with Brisbane City Parklands Services to mulch several large trees in the area beside the School’s Science Learning Centre.
We are looking forward to an expansion of these activities in the future. Parklands staff explained the value of mulching along with possible future activities in the Parklands for Grammar Goes Green enthusiasts, including revegetation, planting, and weeding across the site, pond, and water quality improvements, and the re-introduction of native fish.
Grammar Goes Green will travel to Marrapatta in Term 3 on Saturday 20 August to participate in projects aimed to improve the Outdoor Education campus.
The Modified Rugby Program
If you were at Suncorp Stadium watching the Reds v Highlanders match on Friday 6 May, you would have witnessed several Girls Grammar players on the field at half time.
Year 10 students can volunteer to be Player Mentors in the Modified Rugby Program and learn about the importance of inclusion for children who learn differently. Student volunteering assists these children to take the field and experience the joys of team sport.
This is the sixth year that our students have played Modified Rugby. Students are introduced to the game as part of the Year 10 Community Service program, and several Girls Grammar alumnae have maintained their connection with the game, the players, and the families they support through coaching and refereeing as they progress through GingerCloud’s inspiring Leadership Program.
Congratulations to Lara Elliott (12B) who was joint Master of Ceremonies at the recent GingerCloud Gala Ball, and to alumna, Lara Triscott (2020), who was a guest panellist at this event. Both girls spoke about their contribution to the Modified Rugby Program and the significant changes that it is making in the lives of all involved.
Great pride was felt as the players, mentors, and coaches excitedly waved to their families in the stands at Suncorp Stadium. It is very special to know that Girls Grammar students are able to share in this joy as they assist these children to be included in club sport with their friends.
