Remote Learning at BGGS

In these extraordinary times, our priority is to ensure that the quality education for which the School is renowned continues, and that decisions are made to provide for the ongoing strength of the School and care and support of our students, staff, families and broader Grammar community.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School transitioned to remote learning on Tuesday 24 March 2020. Year 11 and 12 students returned to learning on campus on 11 May 2020, while remote learning for Years 7 to 10 is anticipated to be in place until 22 May 2020. During this time, the School will continue to provide supervision of students in Years 7 to 10 for families who require this.

The School is committed to working closely with families to ensure students continue to receive a quality education—whether on campus, or online. While learning remotely, Year 7 to 10 students will continue to engage with each of their teachers and their subjects, using the School’s digital learning management system and other online platforms. Students also have access to School Counselling Services, Mindfulness Programs and ‘At Home’ Exercise Routines, to ensure a holistic approach to their wellbeing. Year 11 and 12 students have resumed on-campus classes and learning, and the School is following strict health/hygiene and social distancing guidelines.

We are respectful of the need for decision-makers such as Federal and State leaders to represent all in the Australian community and do not envy them the onerous calls they are required to make. It is important that we continue to play our part as good citizens, while understanding that our primary concern and responsibility must be to the girls and their families within our own School, and it is on this basis that we will continue to make decisions.

We hope all in our community and beyond remain safe and well, and keep in our thoughts those affected during this most difficult and unchartered of times.

Ms Jacinda Euler

Principal

Information about learning for Year 11 and 12 has been communicated to families via email.

Families are encouraged to view information shared on Minerva, for students and parents, about remote learning at the School.

Minerva provides a wealth of information and resources for students to support learning in a virtual environment. This includes expectations of students when engaging in classes or group discussions virtually, digital citizenship and online safety, and recommendations for how to safely set-up their workspace.

A Daily Planner for students, to effectively manage their time is also outlined, in alignment with existing lesson times. Students should check their emails and Minerva at the start of the School day, and also check-in with their House Group Teacher during what would be their daily House Group lesson.

Students can also access School Counselling Services, Mindfulness Programs and a series of ‘At-Home Workouts’.

Virtual engagement between teachers and classes will only occur during regular School hours, using email, OneNote, Minerva and Zoom. Outside of these hours, teachers will be marking drafts and homework, marking assessment, providing feedback, creating new resources and preparing for upcoming lessons.

The School has provided a section specifically for parents on Minerva. The most important element for families to remember is that the School is here to support your daughter, and your family. If you have the slightest concern, email or call as you normally would.

Included in the Information for Parents:

  • Starting the Day Well
  • Communication and Troubleshooting
  • Digital Citizenship and Online Safety
  • Digital Policies
  • Digital Platforms and Guidelines
  • Student Wellbeing

Please view this information and contact your daughter’s Head of House if you have any concerns.

Parents may also wish to speak to other families by using the School’s private Parent Facebook Groups. This is a lovely way to stay connected to other families, and share tips and ideas about how your family is experiencing learning from home.

If your daughter is confirmed to commence at Brisbane Girls Grammar School in Year 7 2021, our Enrolments Team will be in contact with you during May and June about orientation activities in the lead-up to her entry.

Of particular note, Year 7 2021 interviews, initially scheduled for Term 2, are postponed until September and October due to the coronavirus situation. Once new dates are confirmed, the Enrolments Office will be in direct contact to invite you to book a time.
