Farewell to Mrs Emma Lowry

Dean of Students, Mrs Emma Lowry, has been appointed Deputy Principal at The Glennie School in Toowoomba and will be leaving Girls Grammar at the end of this Term.

Mrs Lowry began at BGGS in 2006 as a Japanese teacher and during her 15 years at our School has held a wide range of roles, bringing her professionalism, passion for education and enthusiastic care of the girls to each of them.

As a Japanese teacher she sees language study as encouraging empathy and new ways of thinking and in 2009 worked in Japan to participate in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. Upon her return to Girls Grammar, she was appointed Head of Japanese. Emma’s first formal role in pastoral care was as Head of England House. She then became an Associate Dean (Students) and was appointed Dean of Students in 2019.

Throughout her time at BGGS, Mrs Lowry has created a sense of community and belonging among the student cohort, working to ensure that each Grammar girl is known and individually supported. She will be remembered for her deep commitment to the School and our students, and the genuine care and kindness she displays in her interactions with every member of the BGGS community. With Mrs Lowry’s particular relationship in guiding the Year 12 girls in recent years it seems fitting that her last formal engagement at the School will be in support of the girls at their Formal on Saturday night. Emma will be greatly missed by BGGS staff, students and families.

Mrs Stephanie Thomas, currently Head of Griffith House and a former Head of Boarding at the New England Grammar School in Armidale, will be Acting Dean of Students in Term 4 while the Principal conducts the recruitment process.

We wish Mrs Lowry all the very best for this new stage in her professional life as Deputy Principal at The Glennie School and hope that she, her husband Ben and son Quinton settle happily in to their new lives in Toowoomba.
