The Co-curricular Drama program offers an extensive range of drama activities and performances across the year. Building girls’ confidence and creativity, the School’s Drama productions have earned industry acclaim for their professionalism and innovation.

Drama students are invited to audition for Drama productions ranging in theatrical style. Students from Years 7 to 12 may audition for Grammar Dance at the beginning of the year and all students in Years 7 to 12 are welcome to participate in regular Drama Studio activities and events.

Auditioned Productions

Students studying elective Drama have the opportunity to audition for productions centred around different year level groups: Years 8 and 9 (Junior Drama Production); and Years 10, 11 and 12 (Senior Drama Production). The productions focus on contemporary theatre, and guest artists and industry professionals are engaged frequently to work with students and produce high-quality work. Productions are typically staged in the School’s Gehrmann Theatre, and throughout the rigorous and engaging rehearsal and production process students extend their classroom skills, and develop rich personal and social connections.

The Drama Studio

The Drama Studio allows students in all year levels to participate in weekly workshops throughout the year, exploring performance skills of acting and devising, in a fun, supportive and social environment. Workshops explore a range of theatrical traditions, depending on group interest. Guest artists and industry practitioners are often invited to facilitate workshops and the students’ work may culminate in a public performance presented to peers or the wider Girls Grammar community.

Grammar Dance

Girls with dance experience are invited to join the Grammar Dance Club to share their passion for dance with girls across all year levels. The group practises contemporary and jazz styles, and girls are instructed by an external choreographer. Students are able to enhance their dance skills, flexibility and strength, choreograph routines, and enjoy the fun and social nature of the group.
