'Brisbane Girls Grammar School provides an exemplary and exciting broad, liberal education for girls.'
In 1875, six years before women were admitted to Australian universities, Brisbane Girls Grammar School opened to provide girls an education grounded in the Grammar ethos of access and a broad, liberal tradition. The School’s pioneering legacy and position as one of Australia’s leading girls’ schools brings with it the privileged responsibility of preparing girls and young women for full and rewarding lives beyond formal schooling.
At Girls Grammar, expert teachers model intellectual passion, inspire curiosity and maintain high expectations for our students. They encourage adventure in learning and care for the development of the whole person. Girls are immersed in learning experiences that challenge them and nurture their unique academic, social, and emotional growth.
BGGS is academically non-selective in its main year of entry (Year 7) and offers no scholarships. The School’s consistently outstanding academic results are testament to the positive learning environment, expert care of teachers and hard work of the girls. We prepare students for the finest tertiary institutions in the world, and our alumnae embark upon greatly varied future paths.
Through immersive learning experiences within the classroom and beyond, we inspire girls to dare to dream, without fear of failure, and to test the unfamiliar. Teachers encourage independence in our students and support them to acquire fundamental life and leadership skills, with an emphasis on resilience and the development of good character.
With the support of a strong and purposefully engaged community that shares a belief in the importance of educating girls, and values the finest traditions and aspirations in education, Brisbane Girls Grammar School and its students face the future with confidence and optimism.
