In May 2023, Brisbane Girls Grammar School launched its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)—a commitment to walk alongside First Nations Peoples, building authentic, reciprocal relationships, learning from those who are willing to share their knowledge with us, and advocating for the rights of those who are marginalised.
The RAP is based on three pillars: respect for the culture, history and rights of Indigenous peoples; building strong and respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples; and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
While the official RAP launch occurred in 2023, reconciliation initiatives have been undertaken at BGGS for many years. The Uralla Club was formed in 2014 to support students to develop their understanding of First Nations histories, to celebrate the continued significance of First Nations cultures, and to discuss positive steps forward as a school community and a nation.
