In Term 2, Year 8 English students studied poems about different Australian identities such as the Bushranger, the Man on the Land, Migrants and Indigenous Australians. At the end of the unit, each student wrote a poem responding to one they had studied and performed it in a class poetry slam.
On Wednesday 14 October the winners of the class poetry slams—Iha Agrawal (8R), Zara Davis (8R), Charlotte Falting (8B), Levi Gao (8G), Luxe Godfrey-Asseraf (8M), Georgia Mackay (8E), Darci McMillian (8M), Kathryn Peterson (8O), Vani Ranjan (8G) and Faith Scott (8L)—competed for the title of Year 8 Slam Poetry Champion.
The competition, which was well attended by students from Years 7 and 8, was entertaining and extremely competitive. All 10 finalists performed their thought-provoking poems brilliantly, leaving the judges with an incredibly difficult task to decide a winner.
Charlotte Falting (8B) and Levi Gao (8G) were deserving joint winners, with Iha Agrawal (8R) a worthy runner-up.
Congratulations to all involved.
