Year 9 History: Mock Trial of King Louis XVI

Over the past fortnight, Year 9 students have been conducting their Mock Trials of King Louis XVI. During the term, they have been learning about the French Revolution, focussing on the indictment of the King. The students demonstrated their learning by taking on specific roles to either convict or acquit the King of treason. They fully embraced their trial roles: barristers argued passionately, witnesses testified fervently, jurors deliberated deeply, and the judges managed court proceedings consistently. Students needed to construct, engage, and empathise with a range of perspectives and arguments to reach a balanced and informed verdict. Many also relished the opportunity to dress up and embody their respective roles.
