On Tuesday 27 October, Year 10 Technologies students had the opportunity to work with nine female engineers from The University of Queensland’s Women in Engineering team. BGGS alumnae, Charlotte Levy (2015) and Alexandra Price (2006), returned to Girls Grammar to help deliver a two-hour workshop, where students gained hands-on experience with a range of engineering activities.
From electrical engineering and software development activities, to prosthetic mechanics and an online chat with a female field engineer at BHP’s Goonyella Riverside mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, students gained fantastic insight into the current state of engineering in Australia and around the world.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of promoting diversity in STEM fields to foster innovation.
