From the Alumnae Relations Manager

To go or not to go? When it comes to school reunions, this is often the question.

We all lead busy lives and social media has revolutionised our ability to stay in touch with each other, but there is still a special place for milestone reunions where we can gather in person to reminisce and reconnect.

With each week presenting new challenges, this year, Girls Grammar has carefully considered whether to proceed with holding reunion events. Our 2020 milestone reunions will now be held in October—with additional protocols, such as COVIDSafe plans, in place to ensure a safe environment for everyone who attends.

Reunions offer an opportunity to connect with long-lost friends and to make new connections with fellow Grammar Women. Whether you were in the same social group at school or not, you share similar backgrounds and experiences with these women, your class mates.

Perhaps you were in the same House, or you always sat together in French. The memories that were forged on the hockey field, during rehearsals for the Senior Drama Production, or a camping expedition to Imbil are a unique part of your shared experience as Grammar girls. Swimming Squad; Duke of Edinburgh; the Publications Committee; bandmates or teammates—these memories are connections.

As a Grammar woman, I know what it’s like to receive the invitation and think, ‘should I go’?

As one Grammar woman once told me, attending a reunion is not just a chance to ‘catch up’ but also a chance to reflect, to consider who we once were and who we are now as our lives have been shaped by careers, travel, family and other adventures.

2020 has been a challenging and uncertain year for many. If this year is your reunion year, I do hope you will consider joining us, if you are able to do so. We look forward to welcoming Grammar Women back to campus to connect, reflect and celebrate the Girls Grammar sisterhood and the different directions you have taken in life.

Stay connected.
