Introduced 15 years ago by 2005 Head Girls, Lydia Elsworthy (2005) and Georgina Horsburgh (2005), and the Student Council (formerly the Student Executive), Blue Days have celebrated achievements and gathered support for Grammar girls participating in co-curricular events ranging from debating and fencing, to water polo and Theatresports.
Now held once a term—with the entire School encouraged to dress up in blue—these days play an integral part in the reinforcement of the Girls Grammar bond, and build support for the girls carrying the student body’s hopes in QGSSSA events such as swimming, athletics, cross country and rowing.
With the School decorated in a sea of blue, it is common to see younger students dancing and singing with senior students on the second level of the Cherrell Hirst Creative Learning Centre (CLC) during their lunch break on Blue Days. The dancing always finishes with a war cry led by the Head Girls and captains of the relevant sports, reinforcing the Girls Grammar sisterhood.
Concepts have evolved over the years with the 2010 Student Council organising ‘The Bus of Blue Brilliance’, a bus that ferried supporters to and from QGSSSA competitions. In 2017 the Student Council created and sold limited edition badges. The badges were a hit, and soon became a much sought after collector’s item among the girls. The tradition of badge making continues today.
United in blue, Blue Days are all about spirit and allow students to strive for their best and represent the School with pride.
