From the 2021 Head Girls: Sisterhood, Love and Gratitude

Victoria Chen (12G) and Sophie McLeod (12M)
Head Girls

Our first task as Head Girls was to determine the Student Council’s 2021 motto—words that would set the tone for our final year as Grammar girls.

The words came to us after a weekend trip to Marrapatta. We looked back at the bonds we have formed within the School and determined our main values as a Council—sisterhood, love and gratitude.

The Girls Grammar sisterhood is stronger than ever. Our goal was to ensure that every student felt genuinely supported and could look back at the school year knowing we stood in solidarity based on shared experiences. This eventually formed the basis of our motto: When the Sisterhood Unites, the Royal Blue Shines Bright.

Our sisterhood has stood by each other, no matter the circumstances—from planning virtual picnics and daily check-ins during remote learning, to uniting with our House Groups for Interhouse Choir Competition—we always found ways to lift each other’s spirits.

There was so much to celebrate and be thankful for this year—our first Blue Days and the most spirited Valentine’s Day we have ever had. We were all relieved when our Year 12 Formal could go ahead. It was a very special night for all of us where we honoured our last milestones of secondary school and got swept away in a beautiful winter wonderland.

Reflecting on the year more deeply, we would like to thank every member of the Girls Grammar community—we are excited to make the transition to Grammar Women, like the many Grammar girls before us.

We are so thankful to have experienced a BGGS education, and we will miss the School which has become a second home to all of us. As we enter the next stage of our lives, we will always remember When the Sisterhood Unites, the Royal Blue Shines Bright.
