Brisbane Girls Grammar School introduces Years 5 and 6

Brisbane Girls Grammar School (BGGS) will introduce Years 5 and 6 in 2026.

As one of Australia’s leading girls’ schools, BGGS prepares girls and young women for challenging, rewarding lives of purpose beyond formal schooling. The introduction of Years 5 and 6 in 2026 is an exciting and contemporary evolution of a Girls Grammar education, which for nearly 150 years has been synonymous with the finest traditions and aspirations in education.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School Principal, Ms Jacinda Euler Welsh, said the BGGS Junior School would be at the standard of—but distinct from—the educational offering for which BGGS has been renowned since 1875.

‘The decision to introduce Years 5 and 6 at Brisbane Girls Grammar School has been considered deeply and offers an exciting and appropriate next step in our School’s history, evolving the educational offering available for girls to meet contemporary expectations.

‘Younger students will benefit from the resources and opportunities of a BGGS education, while learning in a tailored primary school environment,’ Ms Euler Welsh said.

The primary school experience will comprise separate academic, co-curricular and pastoral care (including student leadership) models delivered in a nurturing environment that prepares students, in a developmentally appropriate manner, for secondary schooling.

Year 5 and 6 students will be taught in a purpose-designed, five-storey Junior School building—comprising classrooms, a dedicated library, and spaces for play—on Gregory Terrace opposite the School’s historic Main Building.

‘The BGGS Junior School will be a smaller, close-knit community in which younger girls can immerse themselves in a rigorous and inspiring experience of education,’ Ms Euler said.

‘We are looking forward to the energy, curiosity and joy that Year 5 and 6 students will undoubtedly bring to our School when they join us in 2026.’

The School’s existing enrolment process will be maintained with places offered based on date order of original application.
