Update to Child Protection Legislation

Brisbane Girls Grammar School has a duty of care to protect all students enrolled at the School, as outlined in the Criminal Code Act 1899 (Qld), and articulated in the School’s Child Protection Policy and Child Risk Management Strategy.

On 5 July 2021, a new section was included in the Criminal Code Act, which outlines the mandatory reporting of any child sex offence. This requirement means that any adult in a school community—including staff, parents and students aged over 18 years—has a responsibility to report any such offences to a police officer.

We encourage parents to familiarise themselves with the updated requirements, and to review the School’s Child Protection Policy and Child Risk Management Strategy, which can be found on Minerva. This document outlines how to make a report. School staff are available at all times to assist with this process, if required.

If parents have any questions about the School’s Policy, please contact Mrs Anne Ingram, Deputy Principal.
