From the Director of Sport

Welcome back to a new year of sport at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. We are proud of the tradition of participation in sport at the School and look forward to many girls taking up sporting opportunities in 2022. With 19 sports, Brisbane Girls Grammar School welcomes over 1000 girls into our sporting community each year.

Changes to 2022 dates so far

The BWPI (Water Polo) season will commence a week later than originally scheduled. Games commence on Saturday 12 February.

QGSSSA Cricket Round 1 is cancelled. In QGSSSA Sport, this is known as an ‘abandoned round’. Games commence Wednesday 9 February and will continue as per the original schedule.

QGSSSA Senior Softball will commence one week later than the original schedule. The first round is Saturday 12 February, and the season continues until 12 March.

Australian Football will start on Saturday 19 February and continue until 12 March.

The BGGS Invitational Swim Meet on Friday 4 February is cancelled.

Excursion Consent

As you would be aware, the School has emailed all parents requesting excursion consent for each girl. Please complete this as soon as possible, as this consent is also required for sports training transport. Your attention to this detail will assist our Coordinators of Sports to ensure a smooth start to the year.

Sports and Venue Information

Brisbane Girls Grammar School sporting teams compete and train at a range of external venues, and fixtures can finish at 6 pm or later. It is essential that parents and guardians are well equipped with information regarding collection times and venues for the many sporting activities offered at the School. Sporting schedules and fixtures are updated on the School App and Minerva. This is the main method of disseminating information to parents and our students. Girls must also regularly check the Daily News on Minerva.

Please be ready to collect your daughter at the conclusion of her sport sessions. If your daughter is not collected at the conclusion of the activity, the School’s procedure is to return your daughter back to the School in a taxi or by our chartered bus transport. The School’s security officer supervises girls once they return to the School.

Communication

Please encourage your daughter to visit the relevant Sports Coordinator in person if she has a sport specific question, or to send an email. Sport Coordinator email addresses are also available on Minerva.

Sports sign-ons are found on Minerva. We encourage parents to access this with their daughters at home.

All girls are required to negotiate clashes that they may have with their coordinator (not the coach) in person ahead of time to ensure a happy and healthy season of participation. As a general guideline, girls will not receive emails unless there is a last-minute change to information; however, they can source information in the Minerva Daily News, and the School App. These platforms will have information about training, fixtures, venues, and expectations. Sports updates are also accessible to parents on the School App in the ‘News’ tab. A push notification is sent through the School app if there is a late cancellation to a sports fixture or training.

Uniform

Students are asked to wear their correct Brisbane Girls Grammar School sports uniform to training and games. The School sports uniform should only be worn while representing the School (not in external sporting competitions).

Please note, the sports uniform may only be worn to or from the Spring Hill campus if:

  • students are arriving before 7 am or leaving after 5 pm
  • are travelling in private transport
  • are dropped off or picked up from the drop-off zone on Gregory Terrace.

We look forward to the sporting year starting as soon as possible and seeing all parents when they are supporting their daughters’ sporting activities this year. Go Grammar!
