Changes to the Annual BGGS Interhouse Swimming Carnival 2022

Due to the current restrictions on school events, we will be holding BGGS QGSSSA Swimming Trials instead of the Interhouse Swimming Carnival.

VENUE: Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Sleeman Sports Complex, Old Cleveland Rd, Chandler
DATE: Tuesday 22 February 2022
TIME: 8.30 am to 2.30 pm

While the swimming event is not compulsory, nor an Interhouse Carnival, students are encouraged to participate. This is an opportunity for all students to trial for the Swimming team, and we particularly encourage Year 7s to swim, but we understand if a student, or their parents, do not feel comfortable attending the venue. There will be no student spectators—only competitors will travel to Chandler and bus transport will be available.

Non-competitors will be supervised doing independent study at School in classrooms.

The trials will commence at 8.30 am with the heats of the 50 m Freestyle Championship. All events will be concluded by 1.30 pm.

Competitors are permitted to wear their Girls Grammar sports uniform, with black leather school shoes and school hat, to and from the School and on public transport. The school sports cap must be worn when lining up to board the buses. Formal hats should be secured in lockers for the day.

Students should swim in Girls Grammar swimsuits and must compete in a House-coloured swim cap, as this will assist with judging. Swim caps can be purchased at the P&F Uniform Shop. The Water Polo Catsuit is not suitable to be worn for the carnival.

If parents wish to drop-off and collect their daughter to/from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, they must provide a note to their daughter’s House Group Teacher by Friday 18 February. Otherwise, the girls are expected to travel to and from the venue by School bus. Students arriving directly to the Aquatic Centre on the day will be required to have their name marked upon arrival. If parents are collecting their daughter from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, they are requested to do so by 1.30 pm, otherwise their daughter will be transported back to the School by bus with other students.

The Brisbane Aquatic Centre canteen will be open on the day however, students are encouraged to bring lunch and a water bottle. Glass bottles are not permitted in the complex.
