Libellum News: BOOKS2DEVOUR

After a two-year wait, Grammar girls welcomed the return of the Libellum Society’s infamous BOOKS2DEVOUR (B2D) competition. The Beanland Memorial Library housed more than 50 book-themed cake creations on Monday 1 August. Students from all Year levels entered the literary cake-decorating competition, some entering as a team, and others with their sister or buddy. The winning cake, Anne of Green Gables, was crafted by Elise Truong (12B), but the People’s Choice award went to Greer Murphy (7H), Celeste Garry (7H), Maggie Lynch (7H), Emily Edwards (7H), and Ysee Nicolas (7B) for their version of The Grinch. There were also winners in several other categories:

Senior Prize: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Leia Kirkham (12B)

Junior Prize: Macbeth by Dorothy Rae (10G)

Year 8 Prize: Billionaire Boy by Angelique Offerman (8B)

Year 7 Prize: Where is the Green Sheep by Charlise Chen (7G), Tilly Joice (7G), and Lara Magee (7G)

Sibling Prize: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Odetta (10H) and Remy Kalinin (8H)

Buddy Prize: The Rainbow Fish by Tia Fitzpatrick (12M) and Mini Sellar (7M)

Staff, students, and some early morning parents enjoyed the incredible display of books and cakes. By 3 pm the cakes were collected and enjoyed by the bakers and some very lucky friends.

As well as entering amazing cakes, the B2D bakers each donated six cupcakes to be sold in a charity stall.  Some of the cupcakes were as magnificent as the cake entries and quickly sold. Libellum raised more than $600 for their charity: The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The Libellum girls are grateful for the way the School community so enthusiastically embraced this delicious event.
