Songwriting Saturday

On Saturday 16 July, selected songwriters had the opportunity to workshop their music with Mr Mark Sholtez. Mr Sholtez is a singer/songwriter and Lecturer of Contemporary Music—Songwriting and Production at the University of Southern Queensland.

It was great to watch how Mr Sholtez workshopped each of our songs. Although each of us had created pieces that were different and unique from each other, the feedback was so useful and applicable to our own songwriting.

I showed Mr Sholtez a song that I hadn’t worked on for a while and found challenging to find ways to improve it; however, he brought an entirely new light to it. He really delved into the meaning behind the lyrics and how an audience might interpret them.

It was a great day to listen to and support the work of other students from all Year levels, and wonderful to have the amazing opportunity to work with someone as accomplished as Mr Sholtez.

We sincerely thank the P&F Association for providing the funding to make this day possible.
