Sports Updates

There are several updates for Sport this Week. Please continue to monitor Minerva for the latest announcements.

QGSSSA Sport

The Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sporting Association (QGSSSA) continues to monitor and respond to COVID-19 in line with Queensland Health directives.

Following the announcements made by the Queensland Government on Sunday 8 August—that all community sport cannot resume until Sunday 22 August at 4 pm—the QGSSSA wishes to advise that Rounds 5 and 6 of QGSSSA Winter Fixtures will be deemed ‘abandoned rounds’ and will not be rescheduled.

Given the large number of fixtures to be rescheduled from earlier rounds, in addition to the recent abandoned fixtures, premiership pennants will not be awarded across Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball competitions for the 2021 season.

The QGSSSA acknowledges and appreciates the large investment of time, effort, and resources into preparing students and their teams for competition and remain hopeful that students will be able to return to the field/courts later in the term.

The Association looks forward to welcoming students back to Winter Fixtures in line with Queensland Health directives and relevant restrictions.

QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

  • New Date: Wednesday 1 September
  • Venue: To be confirmed (further information will be confirmed following the QGSSSA Board Meeting next Thursday 19 August)
  • The competition schedule will be confirmed once the venue is finalised. Please be aware that the order of divisions will be different this year to accommodate IGGS students sitting exams in the morning.

Please note: the date is dependent on Queensland Health restrictions easing and permitting six schools to compete in an indoor venue. At this stage, we will plan for no spectators unless the health directives and venue permits.

BSRA Rowing and Training update

The BSRA Board has decided to reschedule the Head of the River to Sunday 5 September 2021, with a lead-up regatta hosted by Stuartholme on Saturday 28 August.

We have paused training on the river this weekend and in Week 6 and will update our rowers and their families directly about the plan for recommencement, and a plan for land training in small Year level groups at School.

Other Sports Training

Only limited sports training, where students are not mixing with students from other year levels and where body contact does not occur, will proceed next week on campus. Groups must be under 10, including the coach/teacher. Masks will need to be worn at all times where possible. No trials will occur next week.
