Interhouse Swimming Carnival Update

The Interhouse Swimming Carnival will take place on Tuesday 23 February at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Chandler. Students will travel to the carnival by bus, with the first wave of buses leaving the School at 6.45 am.

6.45 am buses

  • All competitors in Event 1 (50m Freestyle Championship – heats) and House Sports Captains

7 am buses

  • All competitors in Events 2–30 (All Backstroke and Breaststroke events)
  • All Year 9 and Year 12 students

8.20 am buses

  • All remaining students—Years 7, 8, 10 and 11

The carnival is a whole-school event and students attend as they would on any other school day. It presents an opportunity for the girls to participate and involve themselves with their peers and fellow House members. At Girls Grammar, this carnival is a valuable experience for competitive swimmers, social swimmers and non-swimmers alike.

Parents and supporters are invited to attend the first BGGS Interhouse event of the year. Please note, all parent spectators must sit in the Eastern Grandstand and are not permitted to interact with students within the complex. The venue requires spectators to sign-in with a QR code and remain seated in their designated seat. The venue’s COVID-safe plan also prevents shouting, cheering, hugs, high fives and other similar activities. Spectators are permitted to clap.

Commencing at 8.30 am with the heats of the 50m Freestyle Championship, all events will be concluded by 2.15 pm. Presentations will take place during the whole-school Assembly on Wednesday morning.

Students are permitted to wear their Girls Grammar sports uniform with black leather school shoes and school hat, to and from the School and on public transport. Students are asked to wear their sports cap when lining up to board the buses. Students do not need to take their school hat to the Aquatic Centre.

Girls may only change into House-coloured clothing at the Aquatic Centre. Students should swim in Girls Grammar togs/swimsuits and must compete in a House-coloured swim cap. Swimming caps can be purchased at the P&F Uniform Shop.

If parents wish to drop-off and collect their daughters to/from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, they must provide a note to their daughter’s House Group Teacher by Friday 19 February, otherwise girls are expected to travel to and from the venue via school bus. Students arriving directly to the Aquatic Centre on the day will be required to have their name marked present in their House area upon arrival. If parents are collecting their daughters from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, they are requested to do so by 2 pm otherwise their daughter will be transported back to the School by bus with other students.

The Brisbane Aquatic Centre will have canteens open; however, all transactions will be cashless. Students are encouraged to bring lunch and a water bottle. Glass bottles are not permitted in the complex.

We look forward to an enjoyable 2021 Interhouse Swimming Carnival.
