Science Learning Centre Update

As construction on the Science Learning Centre has continued, students have been able to view its progress and learn more about the engineering principles at work.

On 23 October, Year 7 students in the Grammar Engineers project joined their peers from Brisbane Grammar School in a short session led by Construction Manager, Cherise Czislowski (De Vere, 2002). Cherise discussed her career and experience as an engineer, and the various projects she has managed while working with her company, LendLease. She also introduced students to the structure of the building footings, and gave them insight into the construction process and her day-to-day tasks as Construction Manager.

Earlier this week, three students in the Science Learning Centre Student Access Group joined members of the School’s Board of Trustees and Principal, Ms Jacinda Euler, to tour the building site. Tara Bashirzadeh (10R), Letitia Harper (11G), Charlotte Venamore (10E) had the chance to see the completed slab and observe the structure and formwork of the new building. Ms Cherise Czislowski and representatives from Steele Wrobel shared with the guests how the building levels have been designed to integrate seamlessly with the other levels of buildings on the campus.

The experience to date has been highly rewarding for the students involved. Staff across many disciplines have reported incidental conversations regarding the construction process allowing for opportunities to link the project to their students’ learning. Students and staff look forward to returning to School in 2020, and seeing how the building takes shape during the holidays.
