Young Grammar Women

Grammar Women—Grammar Girls Mentoring Program

The Grammar Women—Grammar Girls Mentoring Program is a new initiative that seeks to strengthen connections between current students and young alumnae in a meaningful and rewarding way.

Volunteer peer mentors will guide and support Year 11 students to establish and attain their academic, personal or other goals. The School will match a small group of current students (two to three per group) with a suitable alumna peer mentor, based on shared interests and experience.

Contribution: Why be a mentor?

Peer mentoring allows you to share your experience and knowledge with current students, while further developing your own communication and leadership skills. Participation in this program is also a wonderful way to contribute to BGGS and to the next generation of Grammar Women.

Mentors should be:

  • interested in helping others succeed
  • reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality
  • skilled at active listening and providing constructive feedback
  • willing to share their own experiences and offer advice.

Mentors attend four 90-minute meetings across a semester (two per term). Attendance will be required at all four meetings. Meetings will be organised and facilitated by Brisbane Girls Grammar School staff and Program Coordinators, Ms Ruth Jans and Ms Antonia Swindells.

As a young alumna who graduated between 2015 and 2020, we welcome you to register your expression of interest in becoming a peer mentor by completing an online survey via this link.

Please contact Alumnae Relations Manager, Ms Antonia Swindells, on 07 3332 1437 or via GrammarWomen@bggs.qld.edu.au.

Coaching at Girls Grammar

Past students are encouraged to support Girls Grammar by returning to coach current students in a variety of sports.

We would love to hear from alumnae who:

  • can commit to one game per week, plus one training session at a mutually agreed time
  • currently have, or are prepared to obtain a Blue Card.

To register your interest please contact Sport Administration Officer, Cathy Taylor.
