On Saturday 2 November, Anna Butler (9G), Johanna Conomos (9W), Claire Ellem (8B), Jacqueline Hii (8R), Sandra Jiang (9W), Esther McDade (8H), Gabrielle North (8O), Aria Retimana (8O) and Abigail Woodcock (9W) competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) State Final for Robotics at Grace Lutheran College. Brisbane Girls Grammar School and Brisbane Grammar School joined forces to enter two teams.
FIRSTÂ Tech Challenge provides secondary school students and their teachers the opportunity to collectively create robots and solve complex mechanical and computer programming problems. Teams are challenged to design and build a robot using allocated parts while adhering to a common set of field game rules.
This year, our robots were tasked with collecting yellow bricks, navigating under restricted heights and then stacking the bricks in a particular area of the playing field. Both teams experienced challenges throughout the competition but overcame each obstacle by using their critical thinking and teamwork skills.
