Doctors Without Borders Update

On Wednesday 8 May, the two of us, accompanied by Ms Bernard, travelled to Queensland Cricketers Club to attend a Médicins Sans Frontières (MSF) supporter briefing.

We were fortunate to hear from Dr Joanne Liu, International President of MSF and the guest speaker for the evening. Panel members also included Advocacy and Public Affairs Manager at MSF Australia, Mr Jon Edwards, and nurse, midwife and medical unit manager for MSF, Ms Margaret Bell.

We both found the session interesting and insightful. It was particularly intriguing that, in addition to the exceptional medical work that they perform in developing countries, MSF personnel have also been conducting search and rescue operations for refugees off the Mediterranean coast, providing basic health care to refugees trapped in detention centres in Libya and continuing to work in the Democratic Republic of Congo to combat the devastating Ebola outbreak. Thank you to Ms Bernard for giving us the opportunity to attend this meeting, and Mrs Urry, Ms Luiten and Mrs Mungomery for their continued support.
