BGGS Cricket update

The 2023 season of QGSSSA Cricket has officially commenced! We are excited to welcome our Cricket players, parents, and coaches to the new season.

This year, the Cricket squad is fielding an Open team coached by Mr Christian Moffat, two Division 1 teams (1A, coached by Mr Daniel Larkin, and 1B, coached by Mr Paul Soward and Miss Sophia Rothwell), and two Division 2 teams, coached by Mr Aaron Bowden and Miss Alice Barker (Cricket Captain, 2022).

The 2023 season will be led by Siddhi Bhandarker (12W) and Amreen Kahlon (12B), members of our Open team. I have no doubt our captains will lead all teams to success throughout the competition.

It has been exciting to watch our teams train and begin matches, with Round 1 kicking off last week. The Open team had a taste of redemption against Brisbane State High School in Round 1 with a satisfying win, skilfully led by Amreen posting impressive batting and bowling scores, as well as Erin Appleyard (12W), taking a significant wicket in the opening over. Our Division 1 teams were ready to play, with the 1As managing to get on field against Brisbane State High School; however, as a result of the localised rain across Brisbane, the remaining Division 1 games were called as wash-outs and the round was abandoned with all teams awarded equal points.

Please keep an eye on Minerva for all Cricket news and updates regarding training and matches. The schedule of games will also be uploaded to the School App prior to Rounds beginning.

An important date for all diaries is the Pink Stumps Round, which has been scheduled for Round 4, Wednesday 22 February. A sign-on for the student spectator bus is available on Minerva. We would love to see as many spectators as possible coming out to support the McGrath Foundation. The Cricket Captains will share more information with the Cricket community as the date draws closer.

A message from the 2023 Cricket Captains:

‘BGGS cricket is up and running, with teams already having completed their first game against formidable contender, Brisbane State High School, with the Open securing a remarkable win. From meeting new players across all Year levels and Houses, to preparing for upcoming games, we are eager to see what the remainder of the 2023 Cricket season will bring. We hope everyone has had a great first few weeks back, and we wish all teams good luck for the season ahead—it’s going to be a great one!’
