Cricket

On Wednesday 13 February 2019, the second round of QGSSSA cricket was played, in hot and humid conditions. The Open team played out a thrilling draw against Clayfield College at St Joseph’s Nudgee College, the new home ground for the Clayfield College Open team. Batting first, Clayfield College reached 5/53, with Charlotte Banney (9L) taking two wickets. In an exciting run chase, Girls Grammar finished their innings on 8/53, with Amreen Kahlon (8B) making 12 not out.

There were no Division 1 games this week, with the 1A team being granted a Bye and 1B winning through a forfeit by St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School.

All three Division 2 teams were in action at Kianawah Park, Tingalpa. The 2A team defeated Clayfield College 74 runs to 49. Isabel Stephens (9M) took four wickets in two overs, including three in the second over of the innings. Clayfield College did not recover from this start, allowing Girls Grammar to complete a dominant victory.

The other game was a friendly match between Girls Grammar’s 2B and 2C team. The 2B girls batted first, making 51 runs, thanks to Hannah Walsh (10B) and Pollyanna Pearson (8O), who each scored 8 runs but unfortunately this was not enough. Despite being a friendly match, the girls played for competition points, and 2C won, scoring 54 runs in a successful run chase. The game was played in great spirit, with both teams linking arms for a war cry at the conclusion.
