Cross Country Update

I was delighted to see more than 100 Grammar girls on Monday morning at the first RunFit session of the year. Designed by Head Cross Country Coach, Mr Tim Franklin, and Sports Manager, Mr Liam Mulligan, the School’s RunFit Program comprises training sessions that are challenging, achievable and fun.

All students are welcome to join Cross Country—whether to improve general fitness, cross-training for another sport or to prepare for the upcoming Cross Country season. The QGSSSA Cross Country competition is a 3km event and will be held on Saturday 15 May. Girls interested in gaining selection in the School’s Cross Country team that will compete at the QGSSSA competition should ensure they fulfil the necessary training and meet criteria. More information about the selection criteria is available on Minerva.

Congratulations to Annabelle Hill (12B) and Ellyn Hill (12H) who have been selected as this year’s Cross Country Captains. Annabelle and Ellyn are fantastic athletes that have been heavily involved in Cross Country at BGGS since Year 7, and I have no doubt they will lead our girls to another successful season.

It’s never too late to join the squad. If you’re interested please view the training and meet dates on the Cross Country page on Minerva or visit me in the Health and Physical Education Staffroom if you have any questions.

From the Captains

Welcome to the 2021 Cross Country season. It was amazing to see so many girls at the first training session this year. All Grammar girls are welcome to attend training, which is held at 6.30 am, Monday to Friday.

We are both very passionate runners and over the years have found it a great way to keep fit, happy, and healthy. We have made countless friends and find running an excellent way to relieve stress during busy times. If you are unsure about whether you want to participate in Cross Country this year please come along and give it a go, we promise you won’t regret it. Also, don’t miss our welcome breakfast on Monday 15 February (Week 4). We will meet at 6:30 am in the McCrae Grassie Sports Centre foyer for a short training session beforehand. We hope to see you there.
