I hope you are continuing to remain active at home and can find time to enjoy the feast of sport as our Australian Olympic Team competes in Tokyo. There are numerous updates about BGGS Sport detailed below:
The Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sporting Association (QGSSSA) continues to monitor and respond to the COVID-19 health pandemic and operate under the South-East Queensland restrictions relating to the current outbreak of COVID-19. Following the announcements made by the Queensland Government on Monday 2 August regarding the extension of lockdown until Sunday 8 August, the Association has moved to declare Round 4 of Winter Fixtures an abandoned round.
In addition, the Association has postponed the 2021 QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships scheduled for Friday 6 August at Moreton Bay College. The Association is working with the participating schools to reschedule the event and we look forward to providing further information once available.
For our rowers, the BSRA Regatta 3 on Saturday 7 August will not proceed. Due to the current quarantine directive for the BGGS community, the Rowing girls plan to re-commence training in Brisbane on Saturday 15 August and follow the format of a normal Saturday training morning at the shed.
Our Annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival is postponed, and the School will look at the best option for our community over the coming days.
I encourage all girls to access the ‘At Home Workouts’ available on the Sport page on Minerva. Mr Liam Mulligan, our Sports Manager, and Mr Tim Franklin, Athletics and Cross Country Coach, have created a range of fun, creative workouts that are accessible from home, and require minimal equipment.
Stay safe.
Ms Jo Duffy
Director of Sport
