Tennis Update

With six of the nine rounds of QGSSSA tennis fixtures completed, all BGGS teams have performed well and most are still in premiership contention. The Senior B, Senior C, Junior B, and Junior C teams remain undefeated, while the Senior C2 and Junior C2 teams have lost only to the other BGGS teams.

The Open, Senior A, and Junior A draws have been the most competitive, with our best players engaging in some high quality matches throughout the past few weeks. At present, our Junior A and Senior A teams have won five of their six matches, and our Open team has won four.

Last week’s match against Moreton Bay College produced some of the best matches of the season, with the Open and Junior A teams’ matches both going down to the final set. While the Junior A team were unfortunately defeated, the Open team was victorious after Emma Armitage-Ho (9R) fought back from 5-2 and several match-points down to win enough games in the final set to secure the overall win.

This weekend’s match against Somerville House continues a rivalry dating more than 100 years, when Girls Grammar and Somerville House played their first ever sporting match against each other. The most competitive match will likely be in the Senior B division, as both schools are undefeated at present. The Senior B team is coached and managed by former Open player, Annabel Ryan (Head Girl 2018), and comprises Matilda Bennett (9M), Scarlett Brickwood (12G), Olivia Hamilton (12L), Angelina Hsu (11W), Laura Russell (11G), and Lilian Schuetz (12M). Good luck to all teams in their upcoming fixtures.
