Touch Open Squad Camp

At the end of last year, a Touch Open Squad was selected, and players were invited to a three-day camp located at the Gold Coast Performance Centre in Runaway Bay. The camp was aimed at improving our teamwork and skills, and also finalising the 2023 Touch Open Team.

Last Friday afternoon, the Open Squad arrived to commence the 2023 Touch Camp. Players analysed a number of Touch games with a video session, which enabled us to preview some skills we would learn in the coming days. On Saturday, we began each of our three sessions with a warm-up. Throughout the day we completed agility pole drills, attack plays, and ruck defence—all of which helped us gain new experience. After these sessions, we enjoyed some downtime and getting to know each other. The following morning, we revised our ruck defence to prevent opponents from gaining ground on the field. Furthermore, we rehearsed our line attack which included a punish play master class to optimise chances of scoring a try. At the end of the day, we put our practice to the test with three full-field games.

Although the hot weather proved to be a challenge, the Touch Open Squad had an amazing time improving our skills and connections with one another. As the season fast approaches, I am looking forward to having more fun, uniting with the team, and hopefully winning as many games as possible!
