At the end of last year, BGGS Water Polo teams entered the QLD All-Schools Championships held at All Hallows’ School and Somerville House. This was the first time BGGS entered this competition and there was a lot of excitement about participating and getting a chance to take on the best schools in the state—and BGGS certainly took them on! Our School came away with silver medals in each division, proving that Water Polo at Grammar is gaining momentum.
The competition was split into middle school and senior school teams, which gave our players a fantastic opportunity to play with girls from different Year levels.
While this competition was a great way to put our Water Polo training to the test, it also developed into a fantastic leadership opportunity and our players did an incredible job building a supportive environment with a completely new team.
Middle school coach, Mr Josh Ungerer, said: ‘I was so happy to watch the older girls step into leadership roles. The development of relationships was wonderful, as well as some great Water Polo being played! I also received amazing feedback from the younger players about the opportunity to play, learn and improve with older players. Overall, Brisbane Girls Grammar School should be extremely proud of the girls who represented the School at this competition’.
Congratulations to both teams!
The Water Polo Blue Round will take place on Saturday 18 February in celebration of 50 years of Water Polo at BGGS.
