International Young Leaders Forum

Brisbane Girls Grammar School hosted the 10th and final International Young Leaders Forum in the final week of the 2018 academic school year. In total, 74 student delegates, teacher chaperones, principals and forum founders participated in a week of collaboration, deep thinking and cultural exploration. Students from Australia, China, Indonesia, South Korea and Singapore used the Design Thinking Process to deepen their understanding of the topic ‘Shared Futures’.

The Girls Grammar delegates were selected following a formal application process and supported by Mrs Valerie Miller in their preparation. Matisse Black (11H), Fiona Brown (11G), Gia Cayas (11G), Abbey Grice (11E), Claire Saggers (11O), Matina Samios (11W), Saee Sane (11O) and Isabella Sneddon (11E) were exceptional School representatives.

The ‘Best Team Presentation’ was awarded to Team Lincoln, and Saee Sane (11O) was awarded ‘Best Team Leader’ for her leadership of this group. Saee also received the Team Leader peer vote from her group, as did Gia Cayas (11G) from her team, Suzuki’s Superstars.

Girls Grammar students from Years 7 to 12 volunteered as ambassadors and were involved in ceremonies and entertainment, media and photography, music performances, and decorating and design.

The success of IYLF2018 would not have been possible without the significant contribution, collaboration and support of staff, students and volunteers. Special mention to the Mothers Group who prepared a magnificent afternoon tea for us at Rangakarra.

The forum offered a unique and memorable learning opportunity for delegates, who fostered new friendships as they undertook and reflected upon presentations and challenging tasks as part of their leadership journey.

‘I learned that leadership isn’t only about leading someone from the front, it’s also about pushing from the back. I was always the one pulling from the front but now I know when I must push and pull.’-IYLF2018 delegate
