Rowing Club State Championships

Girls Grammar has had an exciting start to the 2018/2019 rowing season at a club level with more than 30 Grammar girls training over the holiday period at various clubs around Brisbane.

The focus for many girls was the State Rowing Championships held last weekend at Wyaralong Dam, which attracted talented rowers from across Queensland. Girls Grammar rowers who participated at the State Championships were:

  • Bronte Cathcart (11E), Claire Saggers (11O), Eloise Young (11R)—Commercial Rowing Club
  • Michelle Clewley (10B), Nancy Duncan Banks (10E), Ellyn Hill (10H), Tylah Hutton (10B), Kirsty Viljoen (12E)—The University of Queensland Boat Club
  • Mary Comiskey (9B), Remi Hirayama (9L), Emma-Rose Neil (9M), Ella Sinclair (9G), Jade Somerville (9G), Elizabeth MacPherson (11L), Bianca Anderson (12W), Maddie Butler (12L), Sarah Mangos (12G), Mackenzie Kerr (12O), Arabella Walsh (12B)—Brisbane and GPS Boat Club.

Girls Grammar had multiple podium finishes, which is a fantastic achievement. Results are as follows:

  • Mary Comiskey (9B), Remi Hirayama (9L), Ella Sinclair (9G) and Jade Somerville (9G)—Silver in the Under 16 Quad Scull Coxed
  • Ellyn Hill (10H) and Tylah Hutton (10B)—Bronze in the Group 4 Double Scull
  • Nancy Duncan Banks (10E) and Tylah Hutton (10B)—Bronze in the Under 17 Double Scull
  • Michelle Clewley (10B), Nancy Duncan Banks (10E), Ellyn Hill (10H), Tylah Hutton (10B)—Silver in the Championship Women’s Under 17 Quad Scull
  • Bronte Cathcart (11E), Claire Saggers (11O) and Eloise Young (11R)—Silver in the Under 19 Quad Scull
  • Bronte Cathcart (11E) and Eloise Young (11R)—Silver in the Under 19 Double Scull
  • Kirsty Viljoen (12E)—Bronze in the Under 19 Pair;  Silver in the Women’s Under 19 Eight and Silver in the Under 21 Eight.
