Strings and Band Spring Concerts

Band Spring Concert

On Monday evening, the BGGS Band Department held their Spring Concert in the Band Room.

The performance was live-streamed for audiences at home, and we were so pleased that families from all over Australia, and, indeed, across the world, were able to watch and enjoy the performances.

The concert featured six of our seven bands—Wind Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Concert Winds, Chamber Winds, and Wind Symphony. Our ensemble directors and teaching staff—Mrs Davidson, Ms Porter, Mrs MacAskill, Ms Garvey, Mr Cavanough, and Mr Johnston—were all very proud of the performances displayed on the evening. The concert was masterfully compèred by Pascal Trixie Green (11G), our Band Captain for 2022.

The extensive variety of music presented was a kaleidoscope of the timbres possible in Wind Band repertoire. We are so grateful to our BGGS Media Team, who provided a seamless and crystal-clear live stream for our audience, viewing from their homes and workplaces.

We now look forward to forming our Christmas ensembles, which will be performing in the closing weeks of the academic school year. Stay tuned for their wonderful performances across the School soon.

Strings Spring Concert

Last week, all our string orchestras, The Gypsy Band, Celtic Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble performed at The Spring Concert for Strings.

There were many memorable highlights, including improvised solos by Lisa Walshalm (9r), Ellen Baek (9E), Zara Hosking (9G) and Louise Campbell (10O), and a stellar debut performance by Olivia Stanton (9H) in Gypsy Band.

Speaking of double basses, Mrs Garrett-Benson wowed the audience with a virtuosic concertino together with Mendelssohn and Chamber Strings.

There was a stunning harp duet featuring Shantell Johnson (8M) and Remi Hirayama (11L), a cello and tuba duet from Mackenzie Somerville (9H) and Samara Kohn (11L), and a beautiful collaboration between Celtic Ensemble and Vivaldi Strings.

It was also remarkable to see how far Elgar Strings have come, given that they only commenced learning this year! Congratulations to all students on a fantastic evening of music and fun!
