QGSSSA Athletics Results

Last term, the BGGS Athletics team competed in the QGSSSA Athletics Championships at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre at Nathan. It was a warm and sunny day that was conducive to great performances and challenging competition.

After starting in Week 6 of Term 2, our girls faced more challenges than any of the other QG schools. Our BGGS Athletics team embraced the challenge of our event group coaches—the challenge to strive for a Personal Best (PB) at every opportunity during the season.

Many new faces pushed the team to perform better throughout the meets at UQ, and in the lead up to QGSSSA Athletics, and our wonderful group of Year 12s led the team strongly and showed their commitment at each training session at Jack Cook Park.

The rousing motivational speech from Coach Tim Franklin and a guest appearance from 2020 Tokyo Olympian Cedric Dubler the day before QG Athletics made an impact, as there were so many fabulous Personal Bests on the day. It was overwhelming how many faces were brimming with big smiles after their events, telling me about their performance and that they had achieved a personal best.

The QGSSSA results can be found on Minerva, along with a selection of photographs from the day. The girls should be proud of their improvement across the season—a huge congratulations to those who claimed victory. First place getters at the QGSSSA Championships were:

Luxe Godfrey-Asseraf (9M)—14 Yrs Hurdles
Chiamaka Ekeocha (10W)—15 Yrs Hurdles
Carissa Graham (7W)—13 Yrs 400m
Ava Spencer (8B)—14 Yrs 100m Div B
Jessica Patten (7H)—13 Yrs 800m Div B
Isabel Lumley (12M)—17 Yrs and Over Div A

The team claimed sixth place overall in an increasingly tough competition.

Thank you to Mrs Patricia Greenland for her commitment to the Athletics Program as Coordinator. Your energy and love for Athletics have been thoroughly appreciated by me, all our fabulous coaches, and our athletes.

There is lots of work to do, but the team are already looking forward to 2022 and even more Personal Bests.
