German Update

As the year draws to a close, the German classroom is full of excitement and fun. Term 4 was both challenging and rewarding for our Year 8 students. Girls learned how adjectival endings are applied in German, and also became ‘fashion designers’ or ‘reporters’, using their language skills to describe their friends’ style.

Each year, German students participate in the tradition of decorating either gingerbread houses or hearts. Germany’s heart-shaped gingerbread cookies—Lebkuchenherzen—originated in the 13th century in Franconia, Germany. The cookies, often decorated with intricate designs and endearing messages, are a staple in German celebrations, especially during the Christmas period.

Students enjoyed learning about German Christmas traditions and of course, taking their decorated cookies home to share with family and friends. Frohe Weihnachten!
