From our annual Instrumental Music Camp to performances at Assembly, school events, and exclusive masterclasses, our students have already embraced the Instrumental Music Program this year. We are pleased to welcome all new students into the School’s 33 music ensembles in 2020.
Senior Music Camp
More than 120 musicians began the academic year at the Senior Instrumental Music Camp. This year, we invited our choristers from Chamber Singers to attend the camp. Instrumental Music staff were impressed with the wonderful musicianship on display as well as the camaraderie and fun exhibited by all.
Thank you to the Instrumental Music staff for their dedication and commitment to the camp, and to all students for their enthusiasm and hard work. In particular, thank you to our 2020 Music Captains, Lisa Chang (12E), Annabelle Khoo (12W) and Hannah Kim (12W), for their leadership and assistance. We are off to a wonderful start for a year of music making and learning at BGGS.
Exclusive Piano Masterclass with Aura Go
Last week, the School was excited to offer our pianists the opportunity to participate in a masterclass with internationally renowned pianist, Aura Go, as part of the School’s unique Education Partnership with Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
As part of the class, Chelsea Chern (7O) performed Odeon by Ernesto Nazareth, Eloise McGeary (11O) performed a movement of the Mozart Piano Sonata in B-Flat Major, K.570, and Sophie Shan (11E) performed Rachmaninov’s Musical Moment No 4.
The students played superbly and gained deep insight into the music they are studying through Ms Go’s detailed and nuanced feedback. The School thanks the Orchestra and Ms Go for making this workshop possible.
Intermediate String Workshop
The String Department is preparing for the Intermediate String Workshop this Saturday 15 February, where students will have the opportunity to work intensively on repertoire for the term under the guidance of special guest music clinician, Ms Monique Bartkowiak.
Welcome to New Families Concert and Information Evening
All new music students and their families are invited to attend the Welcome to New Families Concert and Information Evening on Friday 21 February to gain further insight into the School’s Instrumental Music Department and enjoy musical performances. The School’s Symphony Orchestra and Junior Choirs will perform on the evening. Further details about the event are available on the School’s website.
