Girls Grammar Singers in Villers-Bretonneux, France

On Thursday 25 April 2019, Girls Grammar choristers Samantha Dunk (10H), Emily Flanagan (11E), Annabelle Khoo (11W), Abigail Lui (11O), Grace McFarlane (12M), Mikayla Rentoul (11R) and Laura Verdasco (12G) performed at the centenary ANZAC dawn service in Villers-Bretonneux, France. This was the culmination of a three-week tour performing in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and France with Brisbane Chorale organisation, Voices of Birralee.

‘Taking part in the ANZAC Day service at the Australian National Memorial changed my perspective on ANZAC Day. Instead of just thinking of the day as one to remember a past war, I will remember and thank those who fought for our lives today, and now lie in the graves I walked passed. We will remember them.’ – Samantha Dunk (10H)

‘It was an honour to sing songs of remembrance at Villers-Bretoneux to pay respects to those who fought for our future. It is something that will stay with me forever.’ – Laura Verdasco (12G)

‘The tour not only enabled me to grow as a musician, but also provided an insight into the lives of people from many different backgrounds. It gave me a deeper understanding of an extremely important part of our history as Australians and will certainly be an experience I will never forget.’ – Abigail Lui (11O)

Term 2 Music Concerts and Events

The upcoming concert season includes major performances for most of the School’s 32 performing ensembles. These concerts are an important part of the learning process and all members of ensembles are required to attend their specific concert.

The full list of concerts is available on Parent Portal and the School ‘App’. Students will receive an email one week prior to their specific performance. Girls will need to plan ahead to avoid conflicts with other activities.

To fundraise for the Music Support Group, raffle tickets for a gourmet food hamper will be available at the May Concerts. The Instrumental Music Department appreciates the generous donations of suitable non-perishable items for the raffle. We thank parents for their support in transporting and organising girls for these performances.
