Grammar in Concert
Thank you to the girls in Grammar Singers for their beautiful contributions to the Brisbane Grammar School (BGS), Grammar in Concert on Sunday 19 May 2019. The concert was a highly enjoyable afternoon of performances by the senior ensembles from Brisbane Grammar School.
Queensland Youth Music Awards
Congratulations to Chamber Winds for their outstanding performance at the Queensland Youth Music Awards last Thursday evening. The group won a Gold Award for their performance and gained second place in their section. Congratulations to Ms Ashleigh Porter and the girls for their hard work and wonderful achievements.
Upper Intermediate String Festival
Last week, the String Department hosted the Annual Upper Intermediate String Festival. In combination with players from Brisbane Grammar School and Villanova College, the members of Vivaldi Strings presented a sublime evening of high-level string repertoire including Concerto Grosso X by Corelli and Fantasia on Greensleeves by Vaughn Williams. Thank you to Mr Jonathon Zorzetto for his work with the orchestra.
May Concert Success
Congratulations to the students who performed last Friday evening in the School’s annual May Concerts. More than 500 students from the School’s Junior and Intermediate Strings and Band ensembles performed at the May Concerts.
This year, the String Department forged a collaboration with the Visual Arts Department resulting in the presentation of student art works to accompany the musical presentations in the Gehrmann Theatre. Year 7 mandala creations accompanied the music of the String ensembles in support of the Kaleidoscope theme. Running simultaneously, the Band program presented an evening of greatly varied repertoire including Jazz and Concert Band pieces. The evening culminated in a performance from the School’s 80 piece Symphony Orchestra showcasing the music of classical composer, Franz Schubert.
Junior Band Workshops
This week, we welcomed guest conductor Mr Paul Kucharski to work with the Wind Ensemble and Wind Bands. After workshopping in an extended rehearsal, an informal concert was presented to friends and family.
