International Women’s Day Concert

Last Friday evening, the International Women’s Day concert entranced an audience of 220, who participated in a musical journey across the campus.

Six senior ensembles performed across four venues, celebrating the significant contributions of music by women composers from around the globe. The concert also featured pieces by current students and BGGS alumna, Abigail Lui (2020), with her piece ‘After Night Falls’.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School is proudly committed to the annual commissioning of emerging and established women composers. Since the inaugural event in 2018, the School has engaged and premiered the works of six nationally and internationally recognised composers, and has supported the premieres of an additional eight student compositions. This year’s concert culminated with a performance of the commissioned work ‘Tune Thy Music to Thy Heart’ by Estonian composer, Mari Amor.

Congratulations to all girls involved in this special event and thank you to the Instrumental Music staff who directed the performances and assisted with the delivery of the concert.
